The Europa Centre houses an indoor, mock ‘European town’ and is owned by The London Borough of Havering, managed by the Havering Adult College.

The Europa Centre was created in 1986 by a visionary authority, opening a unique language centre, designed originally for school visits. The Europa Centre remains one of the only centres of its kind nationally, and welcomes schools from all over the UK throughout the academic year.

The Europa Centre is managed by the Havering Adult College for the London Borough of Havering, and is staffed by approximately 40 native speakers from the four corners of the globe. It also employs highly qualified tutors, teachers, linguists, teaching assistants and foreign language assistants. This rich mix of individuals is what gives the centre its unique personality and a rich, multicultural ethos.

The business has undergone various changes over its lifespan, not least of all with regards to funding arrangements, but it remains dedicated in its aim to provide high quality support for the teaching and learning of languages, at a time when communication and intercultural understanding are so crucial.

Alongside the daytime school visits we host, we also run evening classes for adults, after school classes for primary children, GCSE support groups and events in schools.
